Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) "Confused" (迷离 ) from the Legend of Dik Ching 1986 (狄青) into English.

Original Cantonese Song by Sally Yeh (葉蒨文).

This 1986 series released by TVB is very loosely based on "Romance of Di Qing" which is attributed to be written by Li Yutang. Dik Ching/Di Qing was a historical figure and famous Military Commander during the Northern Song Dynasty. Historically he came from a poor background and had tattoos branded on his face, which meant at some stage he committed crimes. Because of this he liked to wear a bronze face mask in battle with his hair loose to frighten his foes. In fictional work, Dik Ching/Di Qing is said to be from a linage of generals and is actually the nephew to the Emperor. He was the leader of the military arm whilst Justice Pao was the leader of the civil arm. As a kid, I loved the series because it was fun and lighthearted. Watching again with adult eyes, I found several aspects of the series annoying which I will explain more below.

The series stars the dashing Michael Miu (苗僑偉) as Dik Cheng who I must admit was a perfect casting choice. I loved his playfulness at the start. Though I thought when it came to romance he chosed the wrong lady... Michael Tao (陶大宇) was pretty solid as the evil dude.

The main female lead was Kitty Lai (黎美嫻). She looked really pretty in the wuxia costumes in this series, but I didn't like the character that she portrayed. She was very pushy and dam outright selfish so I was shocked that she would be the preferred romantic choice. Anyway... Part of growing up and being a man is realizing that the female character played by Charlene Tse (謝寧) is the better choice for a romantic partner. I really didn't like how her character was treated in this series.

The main theme song "Confused" is sang by Sally Yeh. It's been one of my favourite wuxia songs so I am glad to have finally been able to translate it.Anyway, enjoy...
