With Del Wood and Joe “Fingers” Carr leading the way with their instrumental performances, Butler’s entry was the best-selling 1951 vocal arrangement of “Down Yonder,” attaining a top-20 peak on Billboard’s weekly sales, juke box, and radio airplay charts. It spent 16 weeks on the published rankings, making it the most successful of his early-50s releases for Columbia.
