Albert Gene Drewery, known as Albert Collins and the Ice Man (October 1, 1932 – November 24, 1993), was an American electric blues guitarist and singer with a distinctive guitar style. He was noted for his powerful playing and his use of altered tunings and a capo. His long association with the Fender Telecaster led to the title "The Master of the Telecaster"
Collins was an inspiration to a generation of Texas guitar players, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan. He was among a small group of Texas blues players, along with Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Johnny Copeland, who shaped the legacy of T-Bone Walker into a modern blues template that was to have a major influence on many later players. In an interview with Guitar World magazine, Robert Cray said, "it was seeing Albert Collins at a rock festival in 1969 that really turned my head around." Two years later, Collins played at Cray's high-school graduation party in Tacoma, Washington, and the ice-pick sound sunk in deep: "That was it," Cray recalled. "That changed my whole life around. From that moment I started seriously studying the blues." Rolling Stone ranked Collins at number 56 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists.

-From the person who recorded these shows (and many thanks to him for that!):
What memories on this one. My buddy Dennis O. from high school saw him the first show and told Albert that he had a friend that could come and record the next two shows. Albert said to Dennis..."you want to record meeee! Wonderful!" So I packed up the pro cassette unit and sat front row center which was about 15 feet from the stage. I put the mics in two short drink glasses and spread them apart on our table. WHAT A RECORDING! EXC+ ALL THE WAY! For those that know my list, EXC+ is rare. Every little nuance can be heard on his guitar. I mean like NO ONE here on dime or anywhere has heard on tape from Albert. Albert says half way through the show that looking out the window he no longer can see his van. It was completely covered in snow.
This folks was the night of the 1979 Chicago snow storm. The entire city was shut down the next day. Albert's 3rd show was canceled. I took my day off school to record the copies and walked one mile to Albert's hotel to give him his. Met his wife as well. He was staying at the Diplomat on Foster and Lincoln. Great long set of music. Please understand the set list needs a bit of adjustment. As does the tracking. For the purist in me, I want to make sure you have the best possible listen of the show. Listen to the show in its entirety. THEN..fix as you please.
Three hours. Albert! Thank you for the memories! RIP.
Analog Master RB.
