Richard Trudeau : Classical Guitar.
--------------------------------------------
This piece was originally composed by jazz pianist Chick Corea for his Childrens Songs album released in 1984. It was then borrowed by Lee Ritenour who was inspired to compose an extension segment which resulted in this beautiful and soft jazz piece.
When I heard this arrangement for the first time, It grabbed me immediately and I wanted to make a cover of it real bad, sooner or later. When the time came to recruit musicians for the project, my two wonderful musician friends Annemiek and Fred came to mind in a flash without any hesitation. It was clear to me that I wanted to record this song with both of them. Annemiek’s unique touch and Fred’s amazing musical ear was exactly what I needed to go around this one… I’m very proud of the final result !

The original Chick Corea part is a very tricky thing to comprehend as it was built with a very awkward structure. Beat #1 is supposed to be on the G note, but I’m hearing the song in a different way even after a thousand listens. It makes more sense to me to place the second note which is E on the down beat # 1... by this I mean that the G note is the anticipation up beat note to the start of the count… on E. Still, I’m able to hear it as it was written, but it’s very hard to keep the focus throughout the whole song especially when the melody kick’s in… Very strange, but surely the work of a genius and a very good exercise for the brain. It’s quite okay for me since it’s a beautiful piece from both angles anyway…

Jazz music is one of the main route to my musical identity… I composed a lot of jazz oriented music in my early twenties and my love for that type of music has always been there as far as I can remember. I will be featuring a lot more jazz oriented material in the future because it’s part of who I am…

I hope you will all enjoy the band’s effort to try to bring justice to this delightful music piece.

Thanks for watching and listening ! Peace and love to all.

Richard
