Ice Cream Scoops — East Texas MTA Trio at 2025 TMTA Conference

Performed by the spirited students of East Texas MTA, under the direction of Shelly Davis, this delightful one‑piano, six‑hands trio brought Ice Cream Scoops to life on stage—making the piano look almost edible with all that fun!

Ice Cream Scoops is an original elementary-level trio, creatively designed to inspire beginning pianists with rhythm, counting, and ensemble playing. The piece is highly patterned and includes a full conductor’s score plus individual parts—perfect for group piano settings or studio ensembles. It encourages playful participation (“Ice Cream Scoops!”, “I want some!”, or favorite flavors), reinforces counting rests and repeated quarter‑note patterns, plus gives students practice with accidentals like F# in the right hand and A♭, B♭ in the left hand.

In this performance, the students handled those rhythms, patterns, and harmonies with impressive coordination and joy. The result? A performance as sweet and smooth as its name suggests—truly a scoop of musical fun!
