Description
Hi all! Welcome to a new series, Art of Pankou ็ๆฃ. Pankou is a celebration of life and the beauty that surrounds us and I hope to capture this through inspiring and thoughtful visuals. Each video features one of the following: a traditional design passed down from generations, a modern design from pankou artists I really love, or my own design. Let me know if there is a pattern you would like to see ๐

๐ชผ What is PanKou? ๐ชผ
Pankou is a decorative closure that is typically found on traditional Chinese clothing such as qipao or cheongsam. The designs often feature animals, florals, and auspicious words used to communicate symbolic messages to the universe. From my current research, existence of Chinese buttons can be traced back to the armor on the Terracotta Warriors, clothing unearthed during the Yuan Dynasty, and an archaeological report of Zhou LiCui from Southern Song.
๐ชผ How did I get into Pankou? ๐ชผ
It started with my love for sewing and a desire to learn how to make the cheongsam, or qipao, in the most traditional way possible (as well as to explore my cultural heritage). You can see the progression of my old vlogs where I document that journey :)
