Description
I don't own the rights to this song. Lee Greenwood: Dixie. Daniel D. Emmett wrote "Dixie" in the spring of 1859, while he was with Bryant's Minstrels in New York. The song quickely became popular, and at the beginning of the War between the States, the troops of both armies marched to war to its tune. By the end of 1861, "Dixie" had become identified as a Southern tune, much to the chagrin of Emmett, who was not a Southern sympathizer. Lee Greenwood recorded it on his American Patriot album (1972).
