At the end of 2022 Vesislava flew all the way from Dubai to a remote corner of England to work with me on a series of recordings: three new compositions written by me and three of her own invention. The result is a collaborative EP named "Gates of Avar".

"The Winter Wind" is the first of my three contributions. The theme had been in my head for many months but I'd hit a wall conceiving it only as a solo piano piece. When Vesi proposed a collaboration, reimagining the motif as a piano-cello dialogue opened the door to the rest of the composition and everything fell naturally into place.

Consequently, I've decided to dedicate "The Winter Wind" to her.
