Description
Phyllis Nelson's 'Move Closer', sang here by legendary session/backing vocalist Sylvia Mason James and produced by Ray 'Madman' Hedges in 1993. This was used in a TV advert for Soft & Gentle, a deodorant product ("Move closer with confidence"). Whether or not Phyllis Nelson (or her label) wouldn't let the company use her signature hit to promote their wares, prompting this cover, I do not know. What I do know is that releasing this cover version off the back of the ad resulted in Phyllis remixing and re-releasing her 1984 original, in retaliation. She even had a sticker on the cover reading, "The Classic Original Version Of The Song From The Soft & Gentle TV Ad"! This is one of the 12" mixes f the Mason James version, from the CD single format on Soft G Records.
