Description
In the year 1968, Kumarji envisioned a new concert, where he intended to explore bhajan compositions by three legendary poets of the Bhakti movement — Kabir, Surdas and Meerabai. According to his biographer, Shri. Dhruv Shukla ji, this concert was one way, where in the best of his years as a musician, Kumarji intended to fit the beautiful vibrations running in his mind into wonderful compositions and sounds. He called the concert, “Triveni”, i.e. the confluence of three rivers, much like Prayagraja. He saw Meera, Kabir and Surdas, as three beautiful rivers of Bhakti and this concert to be a confluence of their streams of worship. One of the bhajans that he sang during this concert, that really caught my eye and heart, was the Meera Bhajan — “Piyaji Mhare Naina Aage Rahyo”. Set to Raga Bhimpalasi in Madhyam, this bhajan shows Meerabai’s longing for her Krishna, requesting him to always be in her eyes.
