Description
Associated with monsoon season, raga Malhar is an ancient raga in Indian Classical music and there are several versions of this raga like Ramdasi Malhar, Gaud Malhar, Sur Malhar, Des Malhar, Nat Malhar, Megh Malaha, Meera ki Malhar, Sur Malhar, just to name a few.
Miyan ki Malhar is a variation introduced by Sangeet Samrat Miya Tansen. Here is a very old and traditional Bandish with prelude in jod played on Sarod by Atul. The bandish is sung by Viraj and Bijal. followed by a chorus तराना-Taraanaa.

There are contradictory theories about the origin of Taraana.
The most logical theory is that as Taraana uses mnemonic syllables like dere, naa, deem, tana, etc some borrowed Pakhawaj and Tabla like percussion instruments and some also from string instruments of Veena family, these nonsensical syllables are used as a musical language tied in with a melody and rhythm, allowing musicians to be unfettered by the restrictions that literal language may pose.
Some believe that these syllables have Vedic mantra origin.
