Sleep

The evening hangs beneath the moon,
A silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head
I know that sleep is coming soon.
Up on my
pillow, safe in bed
A thousand pictures fill my head,
I cannot sleep, my mind’s aflight;
And yet my limbs seem made of lead.
If there are noises in the night,
A frightening shadow, flickering light;
Then I surrender unto sleep,
Where clouds of dream, give
second sight.
What dreams may come,
Both dark and deep,
Of flying wings and soaring leap
As I surrender unto sleep,
Sleep, sleep, ...

Sueño

La noche cuelga detrás de la luna,
Una hebra plateada sobre una duna oscura.
Con ojos entrecerrados y cabeza reposada,
Sé que el sueño pronto llegará.
Sobre mi almohada, seguro en mi cama,
Mil imágenes llenan mi cabeza,
No puedo dormir, mi mente está en trance;
Y aun mis extremidades parecen de plomo.
Si hay ruidos en la noche,
Una sombra asustadiza, la luz titilante;
Entonces me rindo ante el sueño,
Donde nubes de imágenes, dan una
segunda visión.
Que los sueños vengan oscuros y
profundos,
De alas voladoras y salto ascendente,
Mientras me vence el sueño,
El sueño, el sueño, ....
