Track 1 from their fourth album “Stand!” released in 1969 copyright Epic Records. It was recorded at Pacific High Recording Studios in San Francisco. Their best-selling studio release, it received excellent reviews and reached No. 13 on the Billboard chart, where it stayed for two years. "Everyday People" was their first No. 1 hit. Larry Graham introduced the “slap” bass technique on that song and revolutionized the way electric bass could be played for maximum funk effect. The success of this album led to their appearance at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair and their performance was considered one of the best at the festival. The album achieved Gold status the same year and was certified Platinum in 1986. In 2015 it was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress and was added to the National Recording Registry. Written and produced by Sly Stone. RIP Cynthia Robinson & Sylvester Stewart. Sing a simple song
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Talkin', talkin', talkin', talkin', talkin' in my sleep
I'm walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin' in the street, ugh
Time is passin', I grow older, things are happenin' fast
All I have to hold onto is a simple song at last, lemme hear you say
(Na, na-na, na, na)
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Sing a simple song
Try a little do, re, me, fa, so, la, ti, do
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm livin' livin' livin' life with all its ups and downs
I'm givin' givin' givin' love and smilin' at the frowns
You're in trouble when you find it's hard for you to smile
A simple song might make it better for a little while, lemme hear you say
(Na, na-na, na, na)
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm talkin', talkin', talkin', talkin'
I'm walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin
And I'm livin', livin', livin' love
I'm livin', lovin', know about lovin'
He, he, he, he
Everybody sing together
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Yeah, hoo
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Sing it in the shower, oh, now
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Sing it in the hour, sing it, sing it, sing it, sing it, sing it, sing it
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Sing it with your partner, sing it, sing it Mama, got to sing it
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Sing it with your partner, sing it, sing it, Papa, sing it, sing it, woo, ha, ha, ha, ha
(Na, na-na, na, na)
Yeah, woo, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(I'm talkin' now) I'm walkin' (ah, ah-ah, walkin')
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, yeah
(Na) OK, OK, now
