Written and recorded by Hoyt Axton. Hoyt did not record "The Pusher" himself until he included it on his 1971 album, "Joy to the World". Made popular by Steppenwolf's 1968 verison and the movie "Easy Rider", which used the song to accompany the opening scenes.
Axton spent some time struggling with cocaine addiction and several of his songs, including "The Pusher", "Snowblind Friend", and "No-No Song", partly reflect his negative drug experiences.
