Description
I woke up during a period a few months back when I was working 2 and a half jobs with this song in my head and must've had the urge to record it. I just found it...so I apologize for my rugged appearance.
I first heard this song from my good friend and musical collaborator Trent Bartlett while up in Alaska. He had put it into a mix of songs for travelling on the road and we drove the Dalton Highway all the way up to Deadhorse and Prudhoe Bay and listened to this song a number of times. I had to learn it and have played it every so often since then.
The song was written by Utah Phillips in 1976 whose version I had heard but has also been recorded by Pete Seeger and John Denver. Of course the song is a lament about the disappearance of railroads and trains he had observed.
