Description
Woodstock – a hit single by Matthews Southern Comfort (written by Joni Mitchell) which reached No.1 in the UK charts in 1970. The original melody of the song was changed by the groups singer Iain Matthews and when he met Joni Mitchell she apparently told him she preferred his melody! A version was also recorded by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Woodstock was a music festival held on a dairy farm in New York State from August 15 to 18, 1969 which attracted an audience of over 400,000 people. It was held at Max Yasgur’s 600 acre acre dairy farm in the Catskills in the town of Bethel, 43 miles of the town of Woodstock. Some 32 acts (including Jimi Hendrix) performed outdoors before an audience of almost half a million and the festival was known for its attitude to “Love and Peace”. This is my first version of the hit record and I have kept it simple, in line with the original recording. I will probably make it a little more heavy in a future recording. Hope you like this version of the song.
