🎤 In this video, I’m sharing another deep and introspective clip from XXXTentacion’s documentary, where he sits down with Fader and talks about the true purpose behind his music. X explains that his music is made for those who haven’t yet reached a place of self-enlightenment and for people who are feeling lonely, depressed, or sad. He mentions that his work is for the ones who haven’t found peace and happiness in life. X made it clear that he wanted his songs to be a source of healing, connecting with the fans who feel like the world has left them behind. He wasn’t just creating music to blow up the charts but was crafting sounds and messages for the souls who needed it the most.
Throughout his career, XXXTentacion was known for addressing deep emotions and struggles through his albums, especially in works like "17" and "?". On 17, he released songs like "Jocelyn Flores", "Depression & Obsession," and "Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares", all of which were rooted in personal pain, loss, and sorrow. He wanted these tracks to resonate with those who were going through similar emotional battles, offering them a safe space to find comfort. On ?, X expanded his emotional range even further with songs like "SAD!", "the remedy for a broken heart", and "Numb", capturing different shades of heartbreak and emotional isolation. For X, music was about reaching out to people who felt misunderstood or ignored.
In this clip, X also touches on how important it was for him to make sure his fans knew that they weren’t alone, which is why he was constantly pushing the boundaries of his sound. He wanted everyone, whether they were struggling with depression or just feeling lost, to find a piece of themselves in his songs. This is why he experimented with everything from emo-rap to aggressive punk influences, like in "Look at Me!" or the heavy emotional tracks in "I Spoke to the Devil in Miami" and "Revenge."
Similar to X, artists like Juice WRLD also channeled their music to speak to the lonely and heartbroken. With hits like "Lucid Dreams," "All Girls Are the Same," and "Wishing Well", Juice WRLD created music that connected with fans facing their own demons, offering them a form of release. Juice’s albums, like Goodbye & Good Riddance and Death Race for Love, carried on that tradition of using music as a way to talk openly about mental health and emotional struggles, much like X did throughout his career.
Lil Uzi Vert, with tracks like "XO Tour Llif3" and "The Way Life Goes," also tapped into these emotional themes, balancing fun and upbeat vibes with lyrics that dealt with heartbreak and inner turmoil. Uzi, just like X, created music for those who needed an escape or something to relate to. His albums Luv Is Rage 2 and Eternal Atake highlighted his versatility, while also connecting on a personal level with fans going through difficult times.
Kanye West was another huge influence on this movement. With albums like "808s & Heartbreak" and "Ye", Kanye explored his own struggles with mental health, loss, and love, creating music that was both sonically revolutionary and emotionally raw. Kanye’s ability to make vulnerable music that touched millions inspired artists like X, Juice, and many others to express their pain through music.
And of course, Lil Peep was one of the most emotional and raw artists of his time, blending emo, punk, and rap to deliver songs like "Star Shopping," "Awful Things," and "Falling Down" that reached out to the broken-hearted. Peep, much like X, made music for those who felt left out or damaged by the world, and his albums like Come Over When You're Sober spoke to the lonely souls who felt isolated in their pain.
Just like these artists, XXXTentacion wanted to make sure his music could reach as many people as possible, no matter what they were going through. He believed that through music, he could help fans feel understood, supported, and maybe even healed. From songs like "Never" to "I Spoke to the Devil in Miami", X’s versatility allowed him to connect with everyone in a unique and personal way. He wasn’t afraid to express his darkest moments in his music, and in doing so, he gave hope to those who felt the same way.
